This is the official copy of the Statute of Westminster Adoption Act (Public Act No. 38 in the 1947 Statutes of New Zealand). This Act adopted certain sections of the Westminster Act 1931, which is set out in a schedule to the Act (see also in the New Zealand Statutes, 1947), and essentially removed all British restrictions on the New Zealand law-making process except for amendments to the Constitution. Provision for the latter was made in the New Zealand Constitution Amendment Act (Request and Consent) 1947. The Statute of Westminster Adoption Act is an assented act, a bill which has become an Act of Parliament and part of the laws of New Zealand.

The Office of the Clerk provided specialist advice and assistance on parliamentary law and procedures to the House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House, Members of the House (Members of Parliament) and House committees. Activities also included keeping a record of the proceedings of the House of Representatives, Committee of the whole House and numerous select committees, and publishing documents which arose out of House business such as The New Zealand Parliamentary Debates (Hansard) and the Journals and Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives.

Responsible to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Provided administrative and support services to Members of Parliament, excluding those covered by its counterpart, Ministerial Services (part of Internal Affairs) - Ministers of the Crown, Associate Ministers, Parliamentary Under-Secretaries and ministerial support staff. Responsibilities also included travel services to Members of Parliament, administration of the Parliamentary Library, catering services (Bellamy's), building operations and maintenance, policy advice to the Parliamentary Service Commission and the Speaker, and administered the determinations of the Higher Salaries Commission as they relate to salaries and allowances payable to Members of Parliament.
