Department of Conservation, Head Office (AANS)
1987 - current
The Department of Conservation's overall concern was to conserve the natural and historic resource heritage of New Zealand for future generations. The Department also fostered the use of natural and historic resources for recreation and tourism subject to their conservation.
This was achieved by managing, for conservation purposes, all land and other natural and historic resources held under the Conservation Act 1987 and all other land and natural resources where the owner agreed that they would be managed by the Department.

Department of Conservation, Northland Conservancy Office (BBEE)
1987 - current
The Whangarei District Conservancy was responsible for management and promotion of land and natural and historic resources held under the Conservation Act in the Whangarei area. Initially it reported to the Northern Regional Office (located in Auckland) along with other district offices at Kaikohe, Auckland and Great Barrier Island. In 1989 the Kaikohe office was closed, and the office in Whangarei became known as the Northland Regional Conservancy and reported directly to the Department of Conservation head office in Wellington. From 1997 the Whangarei office was called the Northland Conservancy, and reported to the Northern Regional Office located in Hamilton.
