Archives New Zealand’s Christchurch Office Reopens With Limited AccessThe public reading room of Archives New Zealand's Christchurch office will reopen from Tuesday 12 July 2011. The opening hours are 9.30am to 1.00pm, Monday to Friday. Before you plan a visit there are several important things to know. Large parts of our holdings are still inaccessible due to earthquake damage to our mobile shelving. Please continue to email (christchurch@archives.govt.nz) or ring us (03 377 0760) before visiting, to find out whether the items you would like to see are retrievable. In the process of repairing our shelving, some of our records have been moved to offsite storage. While they are accessible, access is subject to two days’ notice and a payment of $10.50 per box. All other accessible records remain free of charge for viewing in the reading room. Please also note that the reading room is on the first floor of our building and the lift is not working. People with mobility difficulties are asked to contact us to find out whether their information requirements can be supplied through our remote reference service. Unfortunately no on-site parking is currently available as the parks are needed for tradesmen working in the building. Metered parking is available in Peterborough Street.
